A child weighing between 15 and 20 kg (33 and 44 pounds) should take 250 mg once a day. A child weighing between 20 and 25 kg (44 and 55 pounds) should take 300 mg once a day. All children weighing more than 40 kg (88 pounds) should take the adult dose of 600 mg once a day. Not approved for newborns and infants. A liquid formulation of Sustiva is being developed by the manufacturer. It is currently available through an "expanded access" program. If you are caring for a child requiring Sustiva who cannot swallow capsules, a health care provider can enroll the child in the expanded access program by calling this number: (877) 372-7097.
Viramune (nevirapine) Viramune can be given to children, using their size or their body weight to determine the dose. Most experts prefer to use body weight as the method for selecting a Viramune dose. Children under the age of eight should receive 7 mg per kilogram of body weight every 12 hours. Children eight years of age and older should receive 4 mg per kilogram of body weight every 12 hours. Note: For the first 14 days of therapy, Viramune should only be given once a day, meaning that half of the regular dose should be used. This can help prevent rash—a common side effect of Viramune treatment. The correct dose of Viramune in newborns and infants younger than 2 months of age will depend on the size of the child. The usual dose is 120 mg per square meter of body surface area, once daily, for the first 14 days of treatment. After that, the dose should be increased to 120 mg per square meter of body surface area, twice daily. A liquid solution of Viramune is available for babies and children, which is easier to give to young children than the adult tablets.
Intelence (etravirine) No dosing recommendations available. No dosing recommendations available. Not available.
